Funny Google Tricks You Never Knew About

Google is well known for changing its homepage on special holidays and events, but the company also has a lot of amusing hidden gems that are much harder to find. We've got some of the best for you to share with your colleagues.

1. Do A Barrel Roll

Typing this phrase into the google search bar will cause the page to rotate 360 degrees before displaying your results. The joke is a reference to the 1997 game, Star Fox 64.

2. Flight Simulator In Google Earth

This started out life as a hidden feature, but became so popular that Google turned it into a full feature in Google Earth. Click on Tools > Enter Flight Simulator, and you're off and flying around the planet.

3. Askew

Google will take you quite literally if you type in the word 'Askew' into the search bar. Try it and see for yourself.

4. Google Gravity

Enter "Google Gravity" in the search bar. Hit "I'm feeling lucky". Then watch your world fall down. You can even throw the pieces around with your mouse.

5. Beatbox with Google Translate

If you head over to translate.google.com and set the language to German certain letters (try: kkkk psh psh psh kkkk bsch bsch) will change the 'listen' button to 'beatbox'. 

6. Google Translate for Animals

Google's latest Android app claims to translate animal noises to human speech. It's a hoax of course but the video demonstration is very funny. And if you can get any of your friends to believes it works you'll be a hero. Check it out here.

7. Mentalplex

Another one you can use to stitch your friends up with. Direct them to google.com/mentalplex and convince them they can search the internet with their minds.

8. One Does Not Simply Walk Into Mordor

If use the walking directions on Google Maps for directions from 'The Shire' to 'Mordor' you will receive some helpful advice...

9. Google Won't Search For Chuck Norris

Google is powerful but it isn't stupid. Try typing in "find Chuck Norris" and hitting 'I'm Feeling Lucky'. Google will chicken out.

10. Silly Alternate Interfaces

Google is available in a number of different languages. However, not all of them are real. You can search the web as Elmer Fudd, Klingon, a Pirate, and even Pig Latin.

They're called easter eggs. Google that! Wikipedia mentions loads and loads more of them.
