The 8 Most Extreme Tourist Attractions

The 8 Most Extreme Tourist Attractions

You can either spend your precious holiday time wandering around with other tourists, pretending that you're interested in the local architecture, or you can try your hand at these extreme activities.

1. The Cage of Death - Australia

Just 4cm of acrylic separates thrill-seekers from the jaws of the not so welcoming inhabitants of Crocosaurus Cove, in Darwin.

Those brave enough can spend 15 minutes inside the 9ft high cage, and watch as the crocs add teeth marks to the outside of the cage in an attempt to get at your limbs.

2. Cliff Base Jumping - Norway

Norway boasts spectacular scenery - and the opportunity to enjoy it as you plummet thousands of feet towards the ground after jumping off a cliff.

3. Iguazu Boat Ride - Argentina & Brazil

The Igazua cataracts are taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide; and, for $15 you can take a speedboat around the 275 waterfalls that cascade through the Argentine and Brazilian parks before motoring into the monstrous falls.

Just in case you're thinking that it'll be nice little ride where you'll get a bit wet, in 2011 two U.S. tourists were killed and five others injured when a boat over-turned.

4. CN Tower Edge Walking - Canada

Toronto's CN Tower holds a Guiness World Record for its EdgeWalk attraction - the highest external walk on a building.

Thrill-seekers are able to take a 150 metre hands-free stroll along the 1.5 metre wide ledge, and lean over the edge to look all the way down to the ground.

5. Volcano Bungee Jumping - Chile

If you find jumping off a ledge with a cord tied to your ankles to be just too boring, why not try jumping out of a helicopter head first into an active volcano.

It makes perfect sense.

6. El Caminito Del Rey Trekking - Spain

El Caminito Del Rey was originally built in 1905 for workers to travel between two hydroelectric power plants; however, following the deaths of two walkers in 2000 it was closed off.

But death isn't enough to put the extreme tourist off, and adrenaline junkies worldwide flock to Southern Spain to snake their way round the cliffs above El Chorro Gorge.

7. Kayaking with Whales - Alaska

While these gentle giants may mean you no harm, their size and power makes for an unpredictable experience.

As more and more people look to experience kayaking with whales, the chances of somebody getting whacked with a fin, a tail, or crushed by a jumping whale inevitably goes up.

Well, it wouldn't be an extreme attraction otherwise.

8. Zorbing - New Zealand

Zorbing allows adrenaline junkies to climb inside a giant inflatable ball and be pushed down a hill.

Extras include a bucket of water being thrown in to accompany you on your trip, and the opportunity to pretend that you're that white ball in The Prisoner chasing an escapee down a hill.
