To celebrate 200 years since the birth of Charles Dickens, the Museum of London is hosting an exhibition that invites you to explore the Victorian London setting that inspired the authors work.
The exhibition features a range of paintings, photographs, costumes and furniture from 19th century London, as well as rarely seen manuscripts from the novelist, presented in his own handwriting – including classics like Bleak House and David Copperfield.
Guests can also re-live Dickens’s midnight walks through the City streets courtesy of documentary filmmaker William Raban. As passages from the writer’s work are read out, footage of street entertainers, homeless people and drunken passers-by are seen on screen.
Come along to witness the Victorian backdrop come to life and absorb the writer responsible for some of the countries most celebrated novels.
Dickens and London runs from December 9 to June 10 2012.
Tickets are £8 for adults and £6 for children (Under 5’s go free).
