The exhibition explores 25 years of work from the Turner Prize nominated artist, opening with the premiere of her film Yellow Patch - inspired by trade and migration across the Indian Ocean.
Central to the display of Bhimji’s photographs and large-scale film installations are the haunting presence of landscapes and buildings located in India and East Africa.
Visitors can also get an exclusive look at rarely seen works from the British artists early career such as the installation She Loves to Breath: Pure Silence from 1987, in which she merges spices of red and yellow with black and white photographs to depict the practice of controversial immigration rules in Britain during the 1970’s.
Head to the Whitechapel Gallery to experience the work of Bhimji presented through evocative visuals and a soundtrack to match.
The Zarina Bhimji exhibition runs from January 19 until March 9.
Entry is free.
