On 29th November 2011, The Draft House Tower Bridge and Wine Chap will launch Extreme Grape vs. Grain – a series of events pitting the wickedest wines against the bolshiest beers.

The third in the series: “Clash of the Titans” Extreme French Grape vs. Belgian Grain.

About Grape vs Grain

Draft House founder Charlie McVeigh says: “It may be fashionable in polite circles to dismiss strong flavours and high ABVs. We shall have no truck with such Namby-Pamby-ism. Extreme Grape & Grain is all about pushing the envelope and seeing what sensory and psychological extremities can remain untouched by our selection of radical, garagiste winemakers and brewers. The turbo-hopped 8-12% beer and fruit and tannin loaded 14-15% wine shall be our bosom companions as the winter nights draw in, and we hope you will too.”

“Fire; the wheel; fermentation: Mankind’s greatest discoveries. The realisation that yeasts could be used for more exciting ends than making bread heralded the dawn of the Booze Age. But ever since then the battle lines were drawn up between champions of the grain; hearty, rugged lovers of hearth and field, versus the defenders of the grape; cultured, urbane aesthetes and intellectuals. The war continues to this day (like opera vs. jazz - only relevant to someone)” says Wine Chap’s Tom Harrow.

The Grape vs. Grain events will see hosts Charlie McVeigh, Founder of the Draft House pubs and Tom Harrow of WineChap girding their respective loins for a series of encounters to defend their chosen tipples.

Vitally, each session will also include poetry (haiku or limerick) and arm-wrestling competition with drinkable prizes.
