ABOUT THE ARTIST

Anthony Jones was born in London in 1962.

Since the late 1980's he has developed his fine art photography practise working with a Hasselblad camera and black and white silver gelatin prints.

Though many of his black and white photographs were taken in the city of London, they are about the spirit of a place, not the geographical location itself. The aim being to convey a sense of mystery about the figures and to question their purpose.

His work follows a modernist tradition, creating the city in dark shades, a haunting place. Roger Watson, curator at the Fox Talbot Museum has compared his work to that of Bill Brandt and Paul Strand.

His work has been published widely including the British Journal of Photography, Victoria and Albert Museum Magazine and features in many corporate and private collections.

In 2011 his work was exhibited at the George Eastman House and featured on the blog of award winning book and exhibiton designer Elizabeth Avedon.
