Say what you like about Thomas Patrick John Anson, Fifth Earl of Lichfield, but there are two things you can’t take away from the man’s legacy: one, an incredible bouffant; two, an uncanny knack of persuading women to take their kit off for him.

In the 1980s, he was one of the biggest photographers in the world, shooting for a host of major magazines including five years at US Vogue.

Women would flock to lie naked for him upon any bed, in any car and, indeed, on top of any dining room table – with the possible exception of Princess Diana, but then again, she was his cousin. Not that familial ties have historically been an issue for the royal family, of course.

Patrick Lichfield: Nudes is on from 24 April–26 May at The Little Black Gallery, 13A Park Walk, SW10 0AJ
