CityBird: Jubilee Drinking In The City

Take your pick from these Jubilee-themed drinking/eating parades this week.

Volupté

Chancery Lane-based cabaret supperclub Volupté is hosting a ‘best of British’ show on Tuesday 5 June. There’s afternoon tea at 2.30pm, dinner of British classics in the evening and a burlesque show featuring an act suspiciously called ‘Diamond Jubilee’.

The Lamb Tavern

You might’ve already seen, but we’re giving away 10 pairs of tickets to The Lamb Tavern’s Jubilee street party on Sunday 3 June. There will be specially-brewed Jubilee ale on tap and a traditional buffet – coronation chicken and pork pies are among the dishes. Oh, and there’s a Brit pop band on.

The Gun

The upmarket Canary Wharf joint is hosting a low-key vintage street party on Sunday 3 June. Starting at 12pm, The Gun will recreate the celebrations of the original coronation out on its riverside balcony. There will be communal trestle tables where you can tuck into a hog roast or a glass of Pimm’s royal, a champagne-topped glass of the ultimate summer drink. Extra points go to The Gun for being on the Thames – the perfect spot to watch the action.

Caravaggio

Until the 15 June, the Leadenhall Italian is marrying the best Italian food with English wines in a special Jubilee menu. It’s three courses for £49.50 with wine pairings. The vodka and dill marinated salmon and the asparagus and Dorsey blue cheese (very en saison) come recommended.

Free Jubilee Karaoke

Chain Karaoke Network is offering wannabe singers an hour’s free karaoke to celebrate the Jubilee. Fancy crooning to God Save The Queen? I knew it. Head to one of these venues to grab the free hour:

  • The Castle, Farringdon
  • Davy’s, Canary Wharf
  • Davy’s, Holborn

The Folly, The Refinery and The Parlour

All three City bars are offering traditional afternoon teas for two as picnics. Fill yer royal boots with cucumber sandwiches, Union Jack macaroons, diamond cupcakes and a special Jubilee sharing cocktail. Choose from the strawberries and cream picnic, which comes with prosecco; or the blow-out gourmet summer picnic, which comes with wine, antipasti, a cheese board and a scotch egg. Fingers crossed for picnic weather…

The Oyster Shed

On Monday 4 June, riverside-based The Oyster Shed is throwing a street party from midday, with Jubilee-themed food, drink and music. There will be more specially-brewed ale, ice creams and of course, bunting. Plus, it’s one of the better-located City bars, overlooking London Bridge – a decent panorama for the flotilla.
