CityBird: Wimbledon in the City

While thousands descend upon SW19 for the Wimbledon championships, most of us struggle to leave the City limits. So I hereby bring you - Wimbledon in the City. 

New Street Square (Chancery Lane) and the outside area by the IPC building (Southwark) have erected large screens in quirky caravans during the fortnight. Expect deck chairs, rowdy crowds and BYOB. 

Broadgate is giving away FREE strawberries and cream cocktails at Ping Pong on Appold Street (Liverpool Street) during the Championships to celebrate the screening of Wimbledon around Broadgate, just stumbling distance from the restaurant.

Meanwhile elegant gastropub Chiswell Street Dining Rooms (Barbican) is serving up a Wimbledon cocktail, aptly named The Wimbledon Martini. It’s a heady mix of fresh strawberries, rum and amaretto, topped with double cream and amaretto biscuits. Not one for the diabetics. 

And for the morning after… 

L’Atelier des Chefs on Foster Lane (St Paul’s) is running a make your own smoothie workshop every morning until 10am, perfect for dousing the strawberries and cream hangover with a Best of British Wimbledon-themed smoothie.
