Ronan Sayburn, master sommelier at The Dorchester shares five tips thatll have you wine tasting like an old pro1.Taste...
NEW CORNEY AND BARROW KLAXON! The City wine chain has branched out to Waterloo station, to launch a destination bar right above the departure boards.
First we had The Merchant in Liverpool Street station, serving upmarket cheeseboards and continental ales, and now we have Cabin by C&B – the same feel as a City wine bar, but within stumbling distance from a South West train home. Plus, the bar’s so buzzy it’s worth coming down even if you’re not waiting for a train.
Wines at Cabin are from C&B’s legendary cellar – there’s a decent selection of white, red and rosé, plus a DIY wine tasting section, where different samples can be tried. Bar snacks are typically British: a meaty pork pie, upmarket sausage rolls and scotch eggs. Grab a comfy chaise longue, settle down with a glass of Sancerre and feel smug as the harassed commuters scuttle about underneath.
FREE DRINK KLAXON: Visit www.corney-barrow.co.uk/cabin for a voucher for a free drink and a free coffee for the morning after at the bar.
Cabin conclusion: genius for whiling away an hour or two before heading back to the kids in Wimbledon. Thursday nights won’t be the heady, cathartic sweat-fest that is Abacus, but I predict it’ll do nicely for a quick after-work snifter. And you don’t really want to catch that train…do you?
