"See the gear lever here? Now if you take the top off, you will find a little red button. Whatever you do, don't touch it."

The little red button in question is, of course, the trigger for the ejector seat in James Bond’s iconic Aston Martin DB5, and for the first time since it left factory hands in 1969 the car’s up for sale. The Silver Birch DB5 will go under the hammer in London this October and is expected to raise more than $5m.

The car, one of two used in Goldfinger and Thunderball, comes complete with machine guns, bullet-proof shield, revolving number-plates, tracking device, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen, all of which might come in handy on your commute into the City.

Not that we condone such behaviour, though we absolutely do condone donning a tux, putting the Bond theme on your iPod and going in search of Pussy Galore. You probably don’t need a $5m Aston to do that – but it certainly helps.

Aston Martin DB5 FMP 7B goes on sale at RM Auctions’ annual Automobiles of London event on 27 October at Battersea Evolution. rmauctions.com

Lovely car. To the relief of James Bonds everywhere you don't have to spend 5m to get one though ;)
