The event, which is being held at The Brewery on Chiswell Street before moving onto an after party at Parker McMillan, is the second summer party held by Square Mile. Rumours that the first one only finished three weeks ago have been flatly denied by the organisers.
“The inaugural event was so successful it was criticised by the Daily Mail,” said editor-in-chief, Martin Deeson. “I think we can all feel pretty proud of that.”
Last year’s event featured free champagne, roulette tables, fire-breathing dancers and the opportunity to be photographed in bed with scantily-clad lingerie models.
“To be honest it was just like a normal Tuesday night out,” said one trader who wished to be known only as 'John', even though his real name is Tony Piggot and he works for Standard Charter. Others described it variously as “brilliant,” “the most fun I’ve ever had with my clothes on” and “the most fun I’ve ever had with my clothes off”.
This year’s event promises more free drinks, top luxury brands and the ambiguously-termed “exciting live acts”. Those attending are encouraged to arrive as early as possible so they don’t miss out on what one of last year’s sponsor described as “such fun I couldn’t stop smiling so I had to go to the doctor about my face but all he wanted to do was ask about the lingerie models”.
