We don’t know about you, but when we at square mile pop out for a spot of wakeboarding, we find that a calm lake or even a choppy seashore just doesn’t cut it any more. Much better, we find, to go upstream dodging rocks that with one momentary loss of concentration could shatter our bones into tiny shards.

This summer, the waterways of Hungary and Slovenia were the testing grounds for a select group of maniacs, uh, we mean athletes, known as the Red Bull WakeXplorers.

Manoeuvring through rapids, squeezing past rocks and traversing freezing temperatures, they went in blind: it was a pure test of man against the elements.

So, in many ways, much like the daily commute across London Bridge.
