Auction house Artcurial Motorcars, who will be putting the car up for auction at its annual Retromobile sale in Paris, estimates that the car will fetch between £20m to £23m when it goes up for sale, setting an eye-watering new world record for a car sold at auction.

Built in 1957, the Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti (chassis 0674) was first driven by Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant in the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours, then by Wolfgang von Trips in the Mille Miglia in May of that year, where it finished in second place. Mike Hawthorn (who would become Formula 1 champion in 1958) also drove the car in the 24 Heures du Mans, setting the first lap record in the history of the event of over 200km/h.

Ferraris have a knack for record breaking on the track and under the hammer – the highest price paid for a classic car at auction currently stands at £26.5m for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold by Bonhams 18 months ago. A small price to pay to feel like Vettel, right?

Retromobile takes place from 3-7 February in Paris. For more info, visit artcurial.com
