IN THE BEGINNING

My first project was a five-storey townhouse in South Kensington complete with gym, cinema, games room and a secret study hidden behind a pivoting bookshelf. It was designed for a developer and it sold for the highest price per square foot in that postcode at that time.

OUT NOW

We recently completed a Grade-II listed apartment in Knightsbridge. The clients live in the Middle East and, after approving the designs, they left us for a year to realise them without visiting once. It was wonderful to unveil the finished home with every detail taken care of – down to their favourite scented candles and family photos in the frames.

ON THE DRAWING BOARD

One of our current projects is an ultra luxurious multi-unit development on Marylebone High Street. We are furnishing the communal areas, a townhouse, and two apartments all with bespoke furniture we have designed in house to complement the art deco architecture but with a contemporary twist.

IN YOUR SPACE

I love antiques mixed in with the contemporary furnishings. If I could only keep one piece it would be an antique bureau I bought from Holland that has a beautiful weathered patina – beautifully made and a total one-off.

FROM THE SOURCE

My aesthetic has developed over the years and has been influenced by the various places I’ve lived – from growing up in Holland, where there is a vibrant design scene, to living in Madrid and London, two cosmopolitan cities where there is an influx of varied styles.

IN THE MIX

I’d love to work with Brunello Cucinelli – they share our ethos of blending rustic materials in a contemporary way and creating classic designs.

IN THE MATERIAL

I enjoy working with luxurious metals such as bronze – their application can be so varied, from sculptural staircases to intricate panels. No material is too difficult to work with, but living with can be another matter. I’m very selective about materials such as velvet, as I like to create interiors that are for living in and I don’t want my clients to be scared to use their furniture for fear of it marking.

AT THE PINNACLE

I’m proud of all our projects, but one that stands out is an apartment that we designed off the Kings Road in Chelsea. It had a curved reception room, so every piece was template to the exact curve to ensure that it didn’t jar at any angle – from the desk in the window to the consoles, sofas and coffee tables. Each piece was made bespoke and was a one-off for that particular space. It combines luxury with comfort in the perfect balance.

IN TOWN

I find the Chelsea Flower Show hugely energising; nature never fails to rejuvenate and inspire me. You find the most beautiful colour combinations that you just wouldn’t have thought about if you were just focusing on designing interiors – looking at colours in a different context helps me think of new ideas for colour schemes.
